Chad Daybell guilty of murdering wife, two stepchildren in ‘doomsday’ case spanning years

Chad Daybell, previously known for his involvement in a high-profile case concerning the disappearance of his stepchildren, has been found guilty of their murders, as well as other charges related to his actions. Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan, ages 7 and 16 respectively, were last seen in September 2019. Their remains were discovered on Daybell’s property in Idaho several months later. Additionally, Daybell faced charges related to the death of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, under suspicious circumstances in October 2019.

The 55-year-old could potentially face the death penalty due to the egregious nature of the crimes, which included murder, conspiracy, and insurance fraud. The sentencing phase of the trial is set to commence shortly.

In a separate case, Lori Vallow Daybell, the children’s mother, had previously been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for her role in the deaths of her children, as well as other related charges. The death penalty was not a consideration for her.

Prosecutors argued that the couple’s unconventional beliefs, which centered around doomsday scenarios and other extreme ideologies, played a significant role in motivating the murders. Conversely, Daybell’s defense team contended that there was insufficient evidence linking him to the crimes, attempting to shift blame onto others, including Lori Vallow Daybell’s deceased brother.

The case garnered national attention for its bizarre circumstances, including allegations of religious extremism and claims of the children being referred to as “zombies.” Ultimately, the jury found Daybell guilty on all counts, underscoring the gravity of the charges against him.
